Bondi Dental | Childrens Dental Emergencies | Dentist BondiChildren are vulnerable to dental emergencies, and even more so than adults. Their carefree nature makes them less cautious of the things around them that can hurt them. It is therefore up to us, adults, to look after their welfare.

But we are not perfect, and we can’t control everything. There will certainly be times when we fail to protect them from pain, including dental pain. When this happens, your partner at Bondi Dental can help you.

If your child has a dental emergency, you can trust on your Bondi dentist. We provide relief from dental emergencies even after office hours, during weekends (Saturdays and Sundays), and on all Public Holidays. It’s a 24/7 service to ensure you are safe and sound.

Handling a Child Dental Emergency

A calm demeanour is very important in handling a child’s dental emergency. You want to end your child’s pain as soon as possible, and the best way to do it is by calmly administering appropriate first aid steps. Be in control of the situation and everything will be easier.

To help you, we have listed the most common children’s dental emergencies and their first aid steps.

Knocked-Out Tooth

Around 12 or 13 years old, most children will have most of their permanent teeth. Knowing whether or not a knocked out tooth is a permanent is crucial in handling this emergency.

  • Rinse your child’s mouth with lukewarm saltwater. (1/2 teaspoon of salt in eight ounces of water)
  • Apply cold compress to reduce swelling.
  • Locate and secure the tooth. Pick it up by the crown and do not touch the root.
  • If the tooth is dirty, gently wash it with lukewarm water for no more than 10 seconds, otherwise do not do anything to it.
  • For a permanent tooth, reinsert the tooth by biting down gently into a clean piece of cloth.
  • If it is a baby tooth, do not reinsert it as this can damage the developing permanent tooth underneath.
  • Soak the tooth in milk, saline solution, or saliva.
  • Go to your dentist within 30 minutes of the injury.
