Your Bondi dentist is focused mainly on prevention, including instruction in a teeth-friendly diet, use of fluoride-containing products, and oral hygiene practice.
Children’s Dental Practice Care
Some specialised tasks of paediatric dentists include:
Education – Paediatric dentists educate the child using models, computer technology, and child-friendly terminology, emphasising the importance of keeping the teeth strong and healthy.
Also, they advise parents on the prevention of oral diseases and trauma, good eating habits, and other aspects of the at-home hygiene routine.
Monitoring growth – By continuously tracking oral growth and development, paediatric dentists are able to foresee dental issues and quickly act on them before they become worse.
Also, working towards earlier corrective treatments preserves the child’s self-esteem and fosters a better self-image.
Prevention – Helping parents and children set sound eating and oral care habits decreases the chances of tooth decay in the future.
In addition to providing check-ups and professional cleanings, paediatric dentists also apply dental sealants and topical fluoride to young teeth, advise parents on thumb-sucking/pacifier/smoking cessation and provide good brushing and flossing techniques.
Intervention – In some cases, paediatric dentists may discuss the possibility of early treatments with parents.
In case of oral injury, malocclusion (bad bite), or bruxism (teeth grinding), space maintainers may be fitted and worn, a nighttime mouthguard may be recommended, or reconstructive surgery may be scheduled.
